After about thirty years of failures with exhaust header paints, I finally found out what works. Krylon BBQ and Stove Paint. Found it at Auto Zone. It goes on easy and dries pretty quick, especially at about 5000 rpm. It is black and has a satin finish, and can be restored with stove polish. It hasn't burned off, doesn't rub off on your hand, and resists chipping at least as well as my friend's powdercoated system. A good sanding or sandblasting helps prep the surface. The system became a keeper, so I spiked the baffle wall with a 3/4" steel grade stake. It sounded and breathed better, and gained a little steam in the process. It stayed pretty quiet and didn't require rejetting. All good things.
