Humbers right it's not an 83.  83's have an aditional dampening adjustment on the bottom of the shock.  it's black plastic with white numbers 1-5, easily seen in a photo. (unless that photo isn't the one he's auctioning, write him and ask...)

The 83 shock does fit the 82 . In addition to having adjustable dampening, the 83 shock is also 1/2 inch longer.  That additional 1.2 inch was added to level the bike, when they switched the front tire from 90/90 to 100/90, in 83.
