Hi everyone,

Since the implementation of the new "Riders of Vision", the number of registered user have grown impressively.
I want to thank everyone how are participating and even more the one(s) that is or are managing this site.

However, we are not taking advantage of the tools since all the topics are spead out and topics only get classified sequentially. In a year from now, its going to be difficult to find information that is relavent, diluted among the numerous message. How many times will we see the same problem and same answer coming back...

Here is my idea. Lets create structured topics and sub-topics and limite the one who can add topics to those who manage the site. Those of you who use the service manual or the microfiche will see where I am going...

For example we would still have the general section and the swapmeet and a new LINKS Section.
In the general section the following topics and subtopics:
1- How to avoid costly repairs
      a- Stator
        i) Problem description
        ii) Solution(s)
        iv) Part Souces
      b- Starter
        i) Problem description
        ii) Solution(s)
        iv) Part Souces
      c- Clutch
        i) Problem description
        ii) Solution(s)
        iv) Part Souces
    2- General Information
      a- XZ550 Models: Serials # & Characteristics
      b- Manuals:
        i) Owner Manual
        ii) Service Manual
        iv) Haynes
        v) Others
    3- Engine

    8- Accessories

    9- Memorabilia
      a- Brochures
      b- Magazine Articles
      c- Promotional Items
      d- Others
9- Other Topics (where users can add topics if they haven't found info and the topics seems unrelated to any of the previous topics)

I know its sounds complicated, but once it will be implemented, the plasure will grow with usage!  ;D

Hey Ray,
I was wondering, did you ever get my email about the parts fiche on CD? did you ever finish that project? do you have them for sale?

As for re-organizing my particular site, I honestly don't have the time or resources to do this, the only way I could do this is to make my site pay and there is no way i'll ever do that...
Thanks,

As for site organization, I was refering to this forum site.
The creation of topics is easy, but at the same time too easy it creates redundancy. Its a powerfull tool but we are using it as we were using the old forum. How many times you, or any one else, will have to answer concerning the starter seal or any common topic...

ok, that's what i have tried to do with my site, gleen the pertainent info from the forum and present it in an easy to find format.

i'm no profesional site builder, and geocities is free, so their tools are limited, (i wish they had a spell checker, lol)  but i think i've covered a lot of the basics and a lot of what isn't in the books.  i owe a lot to everyone here including ron, Jeff, Leather, Jason, Rick G and QBS, (plus many others!!, Thank you)

There is a lot more that I could add, but what makes it tough to organize is the fact that everything on geocities has to be done online.

X-Ray,

I'd missed this message back when you posted it, in my business, day's run into
weeks and months pretty quick without always having time to even get to this
site. While I agree with you in terms of organizing the forum I don't want to
take away from the natural flow of information that runs through here.
a lot of the time one conversation sparks a new idea and then another etc.
thats part of the fun around here :)

What I will probably do is pick a time span, let's say everything 1 year or
older and then maybe create some kind of mini topics where it's a bit
more organized.

I may take a poll to see when people would want stuff archived and/or reorganized.
maybe 90 days is better, maybe 24 months.  Suggestions anyone?

I do appreciate you thanks and the outline you've created, in fact I will probably use it
in it's present form once I do.
It really depends on how difficult it is to do.

One thing that I will say is that the search function works pretty well
and you can fine tune it. my only complaint at the moment is with the
speed of the site, it could be a bit better and my hosting company has stated
that they are taking steps to improve it.

HI Ron,

Thanks for your comments. I do agree that sometimes good things can emerge from natural flow of things, also called "chaos"  ;D ,but...

...from my point of view you will be doing the work while it could be done by each and every one who posts a message.

My goal was to have people "working" for you...  8) and for themselves by being just a little more organized and "disciplined"  ::)

If I can be of any help, send me a message.
