Several Things to Answer

Well I helped a noob purchase her first bike tonight. She bought on 82 xz550rj (with MAC exhaust) and one parts bike (stole these for the price(s)). I personally owned one back in 1990-93 and had head work and a mac exhaust and a few other goodies too like a honda nighthawk stator etc... I used to belong to this forum on the old sytem 6 years ago. Now I am a Suzuki XN85 Turbo nut http://www.xn85turbo.com actually I own this site ;). Well anyways a few things to ask.

1: Do they still make the preditor Exhaust system? http://www.ridersofvision.net/Technical/Predator_Info/predator.html

2: Has anyone installed a custom OIL Cooler? http://www.xz550.com/Oil%20Cooler%20Construction.pdf (very nice site for the XZ550) ;).

3: Does anyone have these parts for the xz550rk fairing system? We have all the fairing peaces (upper, both lowers and vents) just not the brackets
?? The part has been discontinued (11u-28356-00-00) MAIN UPPER BRACKET. #1
?? The part has been discontinued (11u-28359-00-00) LEFT LOWER BRACKET WITH OIL CAP EXTENSION. #4
11U-28358-00-00 (still available)
11U-28369-00-00 (still available)

4: Going to mount these tires on her this week:
Metzeler Lasertec 100/90V18 Front Tire
Metzeler Lasertec 120/90V18 Rear Tire

I pretty much know all the basics to get it working good but was just wondering about the few items up top. We have a set of keyster carb rebuild kits (Keyster Kit KY-0501)
on order and new cables like choke and throttle etc... so this bike should be back in shape in no time.

Hmmm...Could this be...Bob? :D
The oil cooler (& Vision Resources) is mine, & the cooler works great!
As far as i'm aware, the preditor system, although pricy, is available. i'll defer to others on your remaining questions.

Almost forgot, i still have a few plugs for the oil filter gallery, their $10.  email me if you need one.  --L

I may have an extra oil filler / bracket for the full fairing.  Need to look through my parts to make sure.  I don't have a good cap, hose or case cover fitting for it.

Let us know what you think of the Lasertecs.  I'm buying tires (if I can ever stop buying stators!) and have it narrowed to Pirelli Sport Demons or those new Metzelers.  I was considering a 4.00V/18 rear since it is closer to the 110/90 stock size.  Went with a 120/90 last time & didn't like it as well.  Could be the cheap tire as much as the size, though.

Looked at the Predator site a few weeks ago.  They were still listing the XZ550 system then.

From what I've read, the XN85 was well regarded known for its awesome handling - even more than the boost.  What are your impressions?

If you have an accident on a motorcycle, it's always your fault. Tough call, but it has to be that way. You're in the right, and dead -on a bike. The principle is not to have any accident. If you're involved in an an accident, it's because you did not anticipate. Then, by default, you failed.

One yeah this is Robert from that site.

I would be interested in purchasing that bracket peace from one as it is just one more that we don't have to look for. As for stators I used a Honda Nighthawk 650/750 (had to splice the three lead out wires to the vision ones) but it worked like a champ and never gave me problems in the three years I owned a Vision, the Vision stator is wound to weak to begin with!

We are purchsing the tires from http://www.mawonline.com

(1564)   $89.95 Metzeler Lasertec 100/90V18 Front Tire #1529900
(6288)   $114.95 Metzeler Lasertec 120/90V18 Rear Tire #1532200

Its the cheast place I have found in years with a $6 flat shipping fee nationally. The Vision was querky with tires, I had to run 40psi in front and back (used metzeler me77 back in the day) or she would squirm in the turns.

As for the 1983 Suzuki XN85 stuff well;

The XN85 was the best handling bike in 1983 and was a treat to ride but with its lack luster perfomace (boost not engaging until 6k rpm and 7:4.1 compression) its was not desireable comparied to the other factory turbos for this reason. In the turns it eats all those other bikes alive. But come 6k rpm it pulled as hard as a gs1100 did. I have articles with all the compairison tests etc.. on my site including the 32 development book with all the setups Suzuki tried.

My bike personally is the only professinoally built XN85 int the world. I dumped $14k into it with this stuff below.

I guess to give credit where it is due;

This is the only professionally built XN85 turbo in the world (recorded in 2005). The bike has an 836cc motor 7mm over bore (built by Horse Power Unlimited) with head work, cams, 8:5.1 Wisco pistons, and APE cam chain tension adjuster. The bike produced a 75% BHP gain over the stock (71.5bhp) XN85 on 93 octane producing 118bhp with 79.4 lbs of torque at (14psi). The stock igniter box has been jumped out to get past the 12.5psi boost limit kill (modification provided by ?Suzuki XN85 Unofficial Website? forum member Pulman, from Sweden). The bike flows fuel with a Pingel petcock.

The front end is a 600 Katana (1989-1997 model) running a Metzeler 120/60/17 M1 Sportec, Galfer steel braided brake lines (two peace race style). The bike has an Auto-Meter liquid filled boost gauge to read boost up to 35psi. The wind shield was made by Gustafsson in dark tint out of Florida.

The rear end is a stock swing arm that has been modified to support a CBR F3 shock (1997) and a 600 Katana (1989-1997 model) rear rim conversion. The bike sports custom machine work (done by B&R Grinding) in aluminum to extend the cush drive (.75?) and custom brake arm to rap (stepped 1?) around the rear Metzeler 150/60/17 M1 Sportec running a 18/37 Sprocket Specialist sprocket setup.

The bike was painted by TMIOA member Brett Black out of Tennessee and is dressed with a Sargent covered stock seat. The graphics were reconstructed by myself, ?Suzuki XN85 Unofficial Website? forum member Alexandre from France, and printed by AFE Graphics in Canada.

One of the last things I need to install on this bike is the GSM Engine case guards I snagged off eBay (new still in the package) and cover all the inserts and gauge cover in carbon fiber. I am also going to have made a stainless steel exhaust by Swift Racing Technologies in Maryland or EPCO Stainless out of Ohio.

Since you can't upload attachments to this forum I will post you links to pictures of my bike on mine.

All I can say is WOW  - Nice work & great bike!  Sounds like a blast (or is that a boost?) to ride.  Looks fantastic, too.

Thanks for the stator info.  Will look into the Nighthawk unit as an alternative if the new Electrosport (Electrex) unit fails in the next year or two.
