Flasher relay questions....

I am trying to make sense out of the bad wiring harness that I have....
Right now, the harness is sitting sprawled out on my kitchen island and I have been going through it and I have noticed a possible problem...
I have six wires coming out of the flasher cancelling unit.. according to all wiring diagrams, there should only be five (maybe from sitting for so long, it decided to grow a white/red wire)... My issue is this.. at the plug to the wiring harness, there is a 6 spot connector that only has five connections on the harness side and six on the unit side  :-/
Now, here's the kicker... the white/green wire from the unit is not matched up with a wire on the harness side and the white/red wire (which is not on any diagram I've seen) on the unit side matches up with the white/green wire on the harness side. Now that I have made this clear as mud... does anyone have any ideas as to how to test the flasher cancelling unit to see if it is still good?
As a point of clarification, the working harness and unit in the bike now is set up the same way...

When I drew my full color wiring diagram (posted on Lucky's site), I did a lot of checking against what was actually on the bike. There were a couple of minor discrepancies between reality and the Yamaha diagram, and the flasher cancel unit was one of them.

I suspect that cancel unit was used on several different models, hence the unused red/white wire. All the Vision harnesses I've seen only have the five wires going in. I don't know what the sixth connection might have been used for on other bikes, but you can disregard it on the Vision.
