bear with me... first go-around here.....

the factory service manual does not expound upon the Haynes method so I have a couple of Q's

1) Haynes says pry out left (speedo side) grease seal...
? what about the right side (rotor) grease seal ?

gah... open package... see new seals.. duh

2) I got All Balls front (and rear) bearings....
? they're sealed, shields on both sides, so no greasing... right?

 :) Hey N_V,
Your right...A seal on either side...I think :-[ :-\ ??? Anyhooooo, once there out you have to heat up the old bearing's to get them out...DO NOT PRY/DRIFT OUT THE OLD BEARING'S COLD :o I put an old rug down on the garage floor, heated up one side bearing and slammed the rim down into the rug...took a couple of goes before it came out...and then did the other side. I used a drift to get them out completely on one side as it will not have room to drop out when you "slam" it... ;)
The one's I put in are sealed unit's, so noooo greasing... ;)

ended up drifting both bearings out.... when hot....
oh, well... the FSM said to drift them out to begin with...  ???

crap! .... new front All Balls don't fit >:(

I went to their site... got their part number ... xref'd Dennis Kirk Numbers...

they are a frog's hair too big >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

don't know if it's a manufactures tolerance problem, or they just are a wee bit too big ....

guess I'll go to the dealer and get two OEM's since one is binding a bit after the drift out....
prolly leave the rear ones as is, they have around 8500 miles on them, unless I feel the need to agitate myself sometime...

Any industrial bearing supply will have the bearings you need. Take one of the old ones with you. Get the sealed type.

I took a closer look at the All Balls packaging last night.... along with others, the rear bearings listed the xz550.... the front bearing package did not. That stinks.... their site lists the part for the xz550, the package doesn't list the model...

just a warning to others
