Has any one done the conversion to dual disc brakes , using ''82 fork tubes and '83 sliders?
What is involved?

 Hey Rick,
I did.  I got a set off ebay and both the sliders were bent but the lowers were in good shape.  Everything fit perfectly including the 83 air caps into the 82 sliders.

I'll edit this post with a link to my post showing the whole conversion.

Heres the link:  http://ridersofvision.net/forum/zindex.php?topic=7075.0

My 83 front brake conversion used the original 82 tubes on my V as well.  The tubes that I got had some heavy pitting on them, so I mixed / matched and got a good looking setup.  The 82 fork caps don't fit on the 83 tubes but the 83 air caps fit the 82 tubes just fine.

If you have an accident on a motorcycle, it's always your fault. Tough call, but it has to be that way. You're in the right, and dead -on a bike. The principle is not to have any accident. If you're involved in an an accident, it's because you did not anticipate. Then, by default, you failed.

Rick is asking about my problem - which is:

Using 82' tubes on an '83....

the 82 tubes are over an inch longer, which will raise my 83 by an inch, which I do not want. evidently the 82 triple tree is different than the 83 to accept the longer length tube.

the insides are different, springs different length; my 83 uses air, but I am trying to find a solution to my bent 83 tube.

anyone?

Just so we are all on the same page , the sliders are the part that goes up and down and is attached to the axle and the tubes are the part that goes into the sliders and is clamped by the t stem and on top by the triple clamp.
Ok Dlock , measure the fork tube length , the one I sent you. I'm going to pull another fork leg apart and measure it as well. Pm me your phone number while your at it !
