I see about 50 mph or so (US 83 gearing)

4k in 5th for me on my '82 would probably have me doing about 40-45MPH, I do 50MPH around 5k in 5th.

Ah, such fun to be out riding...

Speaking of which, something I noticed on my 83.  In 3rd gear, at 4000 RPM, I'm doing 30
in 4th gear, at 4000 RPM, I'm doing 40
in 5th gear, at 4000 RPM, I'm doing 50 (ish).

Not too bad a way to tell what gear your in  :)

Aelwulf

Same for me, except it's at 5k. ;) Although it has been a bit since I've ridden the V so it might actually be 4k but pretty sure it's 5k. lol Regardless yep, every gear does x10 MPH around that particular RPM.

4000 iun 5th with non-euro gears...is approx. 46mph. BUT what rear tire do you have ?  110 or 120
looks aren't important, if she lets you play by your rules

Aelwulf

To be honest it's entirely possible it's a 90. :o If I remember last time I looked, aside from being different brands/tread patterns, the tire on the rear said "Front only" on it. :p I think I remember one of the two was the wrong size, probably that one.  Hence my desire for new tires. ;) I have ridden on 'em for a bit though and they're not bad per se.  Piece of mind preferred for new ones perhaps.

I run a 110 tire, and go 55mph @ 5000rpm, so doing the math that makes 4000rpm work out to 44mph.   And another thing, I'm 56 years of age, and my bike is only 100 miles away from 56,000 miles!  I rode it a 125 miles today, some of the time at 8000 rpm, witch works out to 88mph.  These bikes rock

If I keep up my current rate, my bike will hit 47000 miles when I am 47...

I'll break the chain.  Mine will have 10,000 on it by the time I turn 42.  ;D

I'm still grinning from today's activity, but we sure saw allot of smoke, and fire fighters headed towards Yosemite, didn't look too good, up that way.  Couple more rides, and I'll need new tires. I was thinking of trying Maxxis, but they quit making them. I see these IRC Road Winners, don't look too bad

Can't say about the Road winners, but the IRC Duro Tour, I had lasted 1800 miles . It was the worst tyre I ever had! :P :P

I have over 4k on my Avon RoadRunners (not riders) and they still look new after I wash the mud off  ::)

I think I know why they stopped selling them  :(

I don't know how many miles on my Roadrunners, just remember they were new the time we rode with Rick, back in 2006? they have been my favorite tires. I also had a set of IRC Dour Tours', back in 90'. The bike came with Dunlops, put the  irc,    I think BT45's wore the fastest for me.   Michelen, Macadam 50's are good also, I liked the first one's I had, and when I bought a second set, they had made a change in the front tire design that made it worse for me. I rode them out, and by the end of the front tire's life, it actually worked pretty good!  The first macadam 50 front looked almost like a bt45 front tire.

Remember that your front tire size matters for your cruising speed also.
I noticed years ago when I put on a 100 front tire that when I cruised 70 I was passing most of the traffic on the freeway. The 100 was giving me a slower indicated speed than the 90 stock size.

How true....  that is a very important, to factor in this equation.  Mine, has a been, 90/90x18, for ra many moons, a now.
