XJ that is...what'd you think I meant? :P

Original right side shot

Original left side shot

Left side before

Left side after

Right side before (actually between, but anyhoo)

Right side after

Wiped down under the seat & new fuse box

Is this much normal?

No, really, is it?

'Cause I mean that seems excessive

Yeah, ugh

Would this foobar my balance?  Heating the rim for the bearings started melting that ring in a couple of spots

Look familiar?

If your fan acts up, here's where to check for those blasted sensor connections :P And more excess oil on the hose

90 degree brass sintered, just in case someone doesn't know what one looks like.  Think I need to trim about half an inch off the top hose

First time I've taken 'em out

Cruddy boots and all

Cracked boots...and anyone know what that screw hole goes to?

Toasted gaskets, new ones standing by

Say ahhhhh...

AHHHHHHH

That's it for disassembly pics. :D Off to load the starter ones.

Ah, such fun to be out riding...

MMMMMMMMMMM, Bike Porn.   ;D

Nice details.  Need to look at mine to see what the bolt hole in question is for.

If you have an accident on a motorcycle, it's always your fault. Tough call, but it has to be that way. You're in the right, and dead -on a bike. The principle is not to have any accident. If you're involved in an an accident, it's because you did not anticipate. Then, by default, you failed.

the "screw hole" would be the engine mount hole if that was the rear cylinder. Since its the front cylinder, it's empty and the air dam is rubber mounted in the "other" engine mount hole

pretty sure the cylinders are mirror images of themselves.

if the carb boots are cracked through, I'd look for replacements. If they are just "checked", clean them up and liquid tape them

Fear not concerning the oil in your air box.  Your box is clean compared to many.  Being oil free is not a normal condition on the V because the engine breather vents into the air box for EPA compliance reasons.

Aelwulf

K.  I read that the oil was normal, I just figured folks meant a light film not enough to start pooling on the bottom and cover the filter. :)

Thanks for info on the screw hole. ;)

looks aren't important, if she lets you play by your rules

Think they were about $7 each from the dealership. They were $6.10-6.70ish online+shipping so were probably cheaper getting local.  Yeah probably cheaper to make your own but I'm not into learnin'/getting more materials for that at the moment, enough else to worry about screwin' up.

Any views on the front wheel ring bein' jacked up?  I'll probably replace it when I get new tires (ie, before it gets ridden much again).

I didn't notice until you just mentioned it. it just covers the "extra" holes for an 83 rotor. if it bugs 'ya, replace it.

Oh the looks don't bug me, I was just wondering if it having those two thin spots could throw off the wheel's balance enough to affect it.  After Ig ot the wheel back on I went for a ride and around 80MPH it got a nasty wobble & shimmy that was never there before.  It could have something to do with the fork springs going all spongy on me while it was on the stands too.

having two thin spots opposite each other and that close to the center of the rim..... negligible

shimmywob is something else- tire itself, overall balance, steering head bearings... there is also a procedure (in the Haynes manual, not my RAM) concerning the tightening sequence when a front tire is changed...

Hrm, I'll have to recheck the Haynes.  The steering head bearings need to be replaced, have the replacements.  But they did before too and it didn't do it.  It could possibly just be the tires finally getting annoyed at sitting too.  Thanks. :)
