Vision entered in La Carrera Panamericana

Our club, MotoClassico de San Miguel de Allende, has been invited to take part in this years La Carrera Panamericana and I've entered my Vision. It will be the first time bikes have been permitted to enter and I'm very proud to be one of the first to take part in this historic and challenging event.

For those of you who have never heard of it, it was started back in the 50s to advertise the fact that the Panamerican Highway was open all the way from Laredo to the Guatemalan border. It ran for 3 or 4 years and was discontinued because it had served it's purpose and because a lot of people (and burros, cows, and dogs) got killed.

In the 80s it was started up again in a rally format so the cars drive at road speed to the speed stages then, with the roads blocked off, they can drive as fast as they like to the finish of the stage. I followed it 2 years ago and wrote a story about it for my local paper. It was a blast! Some of the greatest roads in the world, in company with a bunch of crazies from all over the world driving souped up old cars. I forgot to mention that all the cars are old most from the 50's and 60's. It's a blast to watch a 53 Stude blow by at 160 MPH.

What could be more fun than that?

The bikes won't be racing but we start right after the last car and will be riding on closed roads so we can go as fast as we like.
