The photos are from the OEM 11J Service Manual  (page 89) & relate to the   REAR  cylinder.

The last sentence in Para 18 says   'Also make sure that the cam lobes of both intake & exhaust camshafts are facing each other" ......... this is not what the drawing shows, & pushing a finger into the cam tensioner hole would surely only make them go further apart.

Is the sentence a misprint  (& cam lobes facing each other only applicable to the  FRONT  cylinder) or am I missing something??

I remember this process being counter-intuitive. There are many misprints in the manual, but I don't believe that this is one of them.

Check out this thread for hints.

You noticed that the manual says to turn the crank counter-clockwise when lining up your marks, right? That's the "normal" gotcha.

*edit*  I guess it is a misprint :)

Hi,

the front lobes should face each other, while the rears should look outward.
It's the only way to put the sprockets on, as the locating pin shows you the way, young yedi!
Align all necessary punch marks and you'll be good. :)

Perhaps "face each other" is a poor translation for "mirror each other"...
