Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming HOOOOYA lets go again baby !!!!!!

'82 Vision, Pearl Orange finish, lots of up-grades!!!

Ron and his wife made it in about 6:00 pm and Glen arrived  about 1:30. We chewed the fat all afternoon and after the McCoys arrived, we went to dinner at the Golden Corral, After an enjoyable meal we , Of course , chewed the fat some more.
I spoke to Jim and he will try to intercept us on our return trip from Supai.
At this minuet , he is in Denny's in Redding CA.,warming up, having come through a horrendous rain storm, all the way through southern OR. and Northern CA. more reports to follow.

Well the first shift of the AZrov fall ride is history. Ron , his wife Sharon , Glen and i rode up to Supai. There was a light rain falling as we left Kingman, after a good breakfast. The rain held off all day  and it  was just overcast, as we made the obligatory gas stop in Truxton. The road in has a few pot holes , but the scenery makes up for it. After some spirited riding we arrived at the canyon . The  wind was brisque and it was pretty cold as the temp had dropped 20 deg. over night. We stopped in Peach springs and enjoyed a fine meal at the lodge.
After dinner I stopped by the motel to say good bye , to the first shift and to welcome the 2nd shift, as Jim coil had arrived late, due to problems with the bike and weather.

We will attend to Jim's bike tomorrow and see about a ride over to Mead view and the worlds largest Joshua Tree forest. If time permits we will go to Temple  Bar, on Lake Mead or perhaps my favorite ride to Oatman..

More on this tomorrow.
Pics will be posted as soon as possible.

We made it home about about 3:30 this afternoon.  It was a beautiful day for a ride across the desert, sunny with temps in the high 70s.  It was a fun weekend although the turnout was small.  The country we rode through was just beautiful and the uncertain weather conditions just made it more of an adventure. Sharon and I rode the ST 1300 which has a 300+ mile range, but the fuel was of concern for the Visions, but we made it. All of you who didn't attend missed a really good ride. Thanks to Rick for putting on a great ride.

Ron  ;D  ;D  ;D

The 2nd shift (Jim) and I rode down old route 66, to Oatman , Jim was a worthy partner , inspite of some carberation problems, he was right on my tail on twisty Oatman road . We stopped for a while at a small spring , with a man made basin for the wild  donkeys to drink from and discovered a goldfish in it!!!! I had lunch as Jim had eaten a late breakfast and then proceeded on to Topoc on the Colorado river. We said our good byes and Jim went west and I went east, on I 40.

The first AZrov fall ride was lots of fun , in spite of a light turn out. I suggested it in jest , its a long way from anywhere, to Kingman and I'm grateful to those who showed up, I had a great time and I hope that they enjoyed them selves.

I have to comment  on Ron's prowes on the ST1300, a most worthy mount, by the way, returning from the  canyon on hiway 18,  there are some great curves and a large down hill hairpin  and the ST1300 was filling my mirror ! I'm old and a lot slower than I was , but I have to admire Ron's skill , with a passenger on a full boat (sport)tourer was very impressive.!

I got back about 2:30 in time to see Tony Stewart win Taladega... ;)
If you are Regan Smith fan. Bite me!

What a great time catching up with Rick, Ron and Sharon...
It was a little cold by the canyon for my gear... but even with
rain Kingman was not cold.. so how was I to know..?

As for 160 miles on a tank.. well mine flat went on reserve at 120 miles.
The milage on a V sucks when you flog 'em! Ron had a 2 gallon
can in the saddle bag of the "Flying Super Tanker"..
So we split it between Rick's and my V... and made it to the station...

I had a blast riding in AZ... and Rick still hauls ass.. so I was always playing catch up.
Though when I remembered how loud those Mac's are.... I was happy to hang back a little...
You Colorado boys should take a weekend as go for a ride!

I hope we can get you  back out here to CA one day
Thanks for a great time Rick...

I'm glad that all enjoyed them selves , I sure did! It was great to see and ride with my friends from CA.
I had you in my mirror Glenn, no way was I going to run off and leave you! I managed to do that run , from Truxton  to Supai and back on one tank , with 3/4 of a gallon to spare, but that was at 45 mph and what fun is that?
I'm certainly glad Ron was there with the "Super Tanker" tho!

I have around 20 pictures in my computer , is anyone willing to post them somewhere ? I can send them as attachments.

Would you like another Ontarian to help you post them?  If you do Rick just send them to my e-mail.  I'll be happy to help you.  And I hope to see you on the next Tiger Ride as the Official Honourary Rider. ;D

Rick,

I got home at midnight on Monday and slept until now. Your "tap the float bowl" worked on the flooding, I had to do it again last night at about mile 750 of I-5. The limited open throttle fuel mix kept me at mid throttle all the way but Hussein got me home. Most of the highway my speed was between 75 and 85, just no full throttle allowed.
8)

Ron and Sharon, I slept at a rest stop on the other side of Mojave so I didn't come through Tehachipi until the rude hours of the morning. I'll check out your two new project Visions on our next ride together down there.

Glenn, the silver looked great! Hope we can see the Solvang, CA motorcycle museum again next year. See ya then.

A freezing migrant worker with no work woke me up at the rest stop so I gave her the down mummy bag that I had bought for $10.00 just prior to the ride as a throw away. It had been used twice before I got it and was really high quality. I got two warm nights of rest, one in a rainstorm and then saved another humans life with it. All for ten bucks! Craigslisters Should Rule the World! I see it as a "cool aid drinkers, wacko, nut case; Socialist" kind of blessing, in my life. 8)

Hussein's total mileage for the trip was 1787.7, all done with Retro Randy's bobber project motor, three 7's. What a way to test an engine swap, eh? This ride was also the first mileage with my "air cooled stator" test mule and all I can say is that it made it this far with the stock stator. Obviously this is a long term test.

It's the TRUTH; there are goldfish in a spring on the side of a cliff in the middle of the desert!

On the way down; I left in a rainstorm and followed it to Barstow, Ca. I got a batch of gas in Shasta County that plugged the little sintered brass filter on Hussein. I ran 50 miles with no filter until Wasco, Ca. I installed a grotesque white plastic filter the NAPA store had in stock and rode on. During this period with no filter something plugged a high speed circuit in one carb and the rear needle began leaking a little and flooding at closed throttle. Mid throttle was fine and I made it to Kingman with no worries that mattered. ;D

The road to Oatman was shy of mule dung this time of year, that was a plus.  ;D Two turns were lightly sanded with coarse decomposed granite but the rest were clean with lots of asphalt liquid crack fills. I got to power drift out of a couple of turns trying to pull with Rick's exits. His Vision definitely out pulled me with my carb problems so I compensated with higher revs and lower gears at part throttle. It also made me think ahead further. I'd try to swing wide entering a turn in order to keep speed on Rick's tight apexes and then gas it early and lightly because the main circuit got plugged on one carb, no full throttle was allowed.
Once the MACs began to bark, Rick would leave me and I'd have to late brake and swing wide at the next turn to regain ground. Such fun!  8)

At Oatman, Rick and I parked across the street from the Jackass Juction, watched a gunfight, had a conversation with a Harley guy who parked with us and went to the Hotel for respite.

The Harley guys response to the question "How was your ride?" was " It was fine until the last few miles ". I told him with a grin that I had rode down from Medford, Oregon just to ride that road. He then complained that there was sand in two of the turns. I agreed about the two turns and then shared with him our joy at not having to deal with the fresh Mule dung today. When I told him that we Vision riders seek out roads like the last few miles he just looked at the Visions like they were the strangest thing he had ever seen.

I had a few beers while Rick ate, a little country and western guitar picker live and then there was another bank robbery out front, the Sheriff and the bank robber shot each other multiple times while mules stepped around there jerking bodies in the middle of Route 66 and then it was time to head back to Oregon. Now Hussein has done the road to Oatman, Arizona; as every self respecting Vision must sometime do.  8)

Thanks for putting up with my late arrival, Rick. I know I say this after every Vision ride but; I needed that.
