When I parked my bike at work today, the odometer read 43434.3 miles...

Thank God we don't have binary digit odometers or your reading would be:

1010100110101010 miles.

OK, I'll bite, when I parked mine this morning "at work" the odometer read 34938.7 miles.

Binary doesn't handle floating point numbers...  At least not the version that you quoted  ;D

Brian, you are correct. Binary deals in whole numbers only, so does hex, A9AA for yours and Don's(rounded up) would be 887B.
