Gonna put some oil in her, warm her up real well, sync Idle and off Idle... Video for youtube!! She's gonna sound GREAT!!
Still need: Caliper/pads (xvision, tuesday), turn signals (kid jedi, tuesday), throttle cable, dash light bulbs, replacement bolts for rear brake stabilizer bar, Paint. Need backup stator, LOL.... Then, Vision #6410 rides high, once again...
Looking for full fairing w/ high windshield, maybe even full bags, and plugs for heated garments.. viola, cold weather bike!!!

your tick could be the exhaust gaskets

did you check your carb boots / hoses / YICS box for vac leaks?

the idle not backing down is a classic vacc leak problem

That ticking is your valve tappets. My vision does that slow return to idle thing, in fact every one i've heard has done that. If it idles ok and drives ok i'd say screw it and leave it as it is. Drop your idle to around a thousand and it should return to idle alot faster.
Take your throttle cable off and flush it out with wd40 or something, then when you put it on, route it correctly and it should work fine.
One thing though, dont rev it up too high without a load, its kinda a nono for engines ;)

I took mine for a warm-up and gas today. Got brake-checked by a Ford Ranger towing a boat, he blew a front tire and freaked, slammed his brakes. Glad I have a front brake!

I checked for vac leaks,, capped off yics. yikes. Took carbs off and gave a cursory cleaning, back on, same thing,, little hesitation on beginning of throttle roll on, and slow rev down.. (normal?!?!?!)..... Slight tick IS valves but its not bad. Big TICK is gone!! Im gonna try the caliper again, tomorrow. had idle set at about 1500,ish...

didnt I read something about the vacuum operated opening of the air vent for the airbox can be changed to stop the stumble off Idle???

The mounting holes are slotted, so you can adjust it.

earlier open or slower open, to stop a stumble off idle? Need more air? sooner?

For the flap, If it feels lean, open slower, to correct.  Also the acc pump rod length, can help on this too.  look at it, and figure witch way makes for more or less squirt, change it, feel the difference.

May also want to check how your throttle cable is routed.  I had mine routed the wrong way and it caused some funky problems.

yes, it was routed funky indeed.. so I re-routed,, sstill doing it.. didnt do it before when I got it running!! lol.. I changed something.. Ill find it.. now, does the air filter still sit the same on an early 82 with the flapper upgrade?? Thought I saw something where it was cattywompus.. Is that why the tabs are broken off? I have it sitting squarely on it.. (rectangularly, if youre being specific!!) Took carbs off yesterday, cursory cleaning.. not a dip. had some gunk in it for sure,, Im still using the POs fuel filter,, wonder how clogged that is.. gonna try to do things right. Buying Throttle cable tuesday. 1) buy a valve adjustment tool (saw the "How to DIY" , over my head tool-wise), 2) Dip the carbs 3)re-install 4)sync (after freeing/engineering/buying a sync rod, this one's seized, looks rusted into place), then if she STILL stumbles, experiment with air flapper and fuel pump rod adjustment.. Gotta buy more chemicals!! lol.. I guess Ill need them anyway if Im getting into this stuff as a hobby.. but it will set me back a while on schedule.. $$ is so tight around here you can hear it squeak, money talks, mine says "goodbye", Im so tight you couldnt pull a pin outta my ass with a tractor!!! Did I paint the picture for you!!! hahhahahaha

Word. Its not like a 'dont do that it'll blow upw' but its not good. Plus, theres not a whole lot you can tell if its not under load as you can tell from riding.
