Title: What do I have to disassemble to replace brake tie rod bolts?
Post by: Mike Jacobs on May 23, 2011, 08:57:01 PM
Okay, I read the sticky thread on the rear brake bolts, and would have posted there except it's apparently locked.

I finally got my OEM replacement bolts from the local Yamaha dealer, ready to install to get my Vision back on the road.   Also fixed the leaky gas tank (2nd time), new AGM battery (from Mike's XS, cheap and works great), and new (to me) spark unit (thanks, Raj).

Now, how do I most easily access the FRONT bolt on that tie rod?   My Haynes manual was no help.  And the exploded parts diagrame does not tell what what to disconnect first, what next, etc., and what you do not need to disconnect/reinstall at all, to get access to that front bolt.   I'm hoping I don't have to pull the entire right side exhaust pipe and footpeg mountin bracket to get to it.

Any hints, from someone who's already done this fix?   Thanks...

easier access if you pull off the rear wheel

pull the rear pedal mount plate too.  don't forget you have 2 springs behind it. don't stretch 'em..
