Title: Me, my doughter and my old Yamaha XZ550
Post by: lonerider on August 22, 2013, 04:22:42 PM
Trip three days: from Thursday to Saturday and 670 Km (cca 420 miles), two old motorcycles, Yamaha XZ 550 (Vision), from 1983, with me 95Kg, my daughter 50Kg, 40Kg of luggages and a friend and his wife, with a 1986 Kawasaki VN750A, on Transalpina Road, max altitude 2145 meters.

The "Transalpina Road"  was made by  the Roman armies on their way to  Sarmisegetusa, paved with stone by King Charles II after 1930 and rehabilitated by Germans in World War II. After, the road  was forgotten by the Romanian authorities. That was forgotten and became a hard way to go with normal cars helped to keep the road will untouched, wilderness and charm that few places in the country you have. It is among the few roads in the country that can be reached by car to just above the clouds and their. The link: http://www.transalpina.biz/, unfortunately no english version.

Leaving was Thursday at 16 o'clock with a friend of Alba Iulia (AB), the target Cotmeana (AG), to my sister friend. The trip was well, we arrived around 8 pm o'clock. There: brandy, grills, stories and sleep. Was leaving the next day, to Rm. Valcea, Horezu, then Obarsia Lotrului and camping, overnight, there. The weather was not too friendly with us. Over night at Cotmeana thundered and Friday morning and pulled the rain, thunder, so we were disappointed. I viewed webcams from Ranca and could not see anything. A dense fog and darkness only. How GPS says: "reconfiguration path" .... We left Cotmeana at 12.30 to Rm. Valcea, where we fill'em up, target  Brezoi, Voineasa (here we were to fill up, to have fuel for a way to Ranca and back, if it was not foggy Saturday) and Obarsia Lotrului where planning to spend the night. Olt Valley Road till Brezoi, where we turned left and climbed to Voineasa and there, surprise, not gasoline at the pump. Resignation... climb at the head of Obarsia Lotrului, we "check in" somewhere riverside, barbecue again, drink rum and beer with a full belly and tents installed, start thinking about how to attack Transalpina and worry about fuel. Two versions: Transalpina, the risk to meet fog, to turn back, limit gas, etc. or Şugag without Transalpina and  home, resigned. Then come three version: Transalpina with any risk, Ranca, Novaci (where to fill'em up) and return. We  attacked the latter, but wedidn't found Novaci petrol pump, so we continued to Horezu. There we fed gas, rested, and we chose the route Rm. Valcea, Olt Valley and home. That was the final version.

Here are some pictures.

Isn't it funny how the first two photos are getting the most views? Nice looking scenery/roads/daughter. Looks like a great trip.
