Post by: danijelgajic on June 26, 2014, 07:12:40 AM
hello everyone! I read somewhere that the Yamaha xz550 one of the best engines. I own one such a motorcycle. When I bought it was in pretty sad shape. I did not know what to do with him, so I decided to make a cafe racer out of it. I chopped up the frame put the second tank, tail, handles and many other changes. I bought a second engine with around 10,000 km on the clock. engine has been 15 years in a garage after the a motorcycle was heavily damaged by fire. I composed one of two engine and paintid it _. although not over a motorcycle looking good. I wanted to ask you people who know xz550 whether it is really so good engine? thanks

Hi there, welcome to the forum.

The Vision engine was significant because it was a first in many ways. Yamaha used a balance shaft to smooth out the engine, it's water cooled, it's over-square and good with torque, they used downdraft carbs for the first time, it's shaft drive...    Lots of desirable traits for a motorcycle engine.

Plus, it's quirky and people just like it.
