Title: XZ400
Post by: Robin Hood on April 15, 2007, 09:26:06 PM
I have removed the engine from my XZ400 and have noticed some tiny cracks on the left hand crankcase.

The engine does not appear to have been damaged. Has anyone encountered cracks like these?

probably someone here is better qualified to answer this, but i believe those are from the casting process & aren't anything to worry about, i think they are superfical.  do they leak oil?

i think Lucky is right, but there is a way to check it out -

use a bit of sandpaper, in finer and finer grits to "cut down " the ridges, then polish that section if they are cracks that you need to worry with, they will still be visible after polishing .

after doing this, ,and if the case is solid, you may as well polish the entire engine, then apply a high temp sealer topcoat to keep it pretty for a while .

No I don't think they leak oil. I think I might try sanding them and see if the cracks disappear.
