Title: Just Bought a Vision
Post by: Superfly on July 02, 2004, 02:26:10 PM
Hey Everyone, I just bought a 82 a month ago, rebuilt the crap out of this thing, and since have put about 800 miles on this bike.  But I am having Electrical problems (New battery keeps dying on me).  I am getting ready to tear into it this weekend.  I have been reading up on the RR/Stator, and am going to check all connections first. Any suggestions. ???

i hate to say it but the stator is probably fried. ?i just replaced mine this past weekend. ?have you ran the electrex tests yet? ?if not go to //www.electrexusa.com and download the troubleshooting flow chart. ?Make sure you have a fully charged battery and a full tank of gas. ?Generally (not always) undercharging is a fried stator and overcharging is a bad r/r. ?
good luck and welcome to the site. ?took me the last 4 months took get mine going, sure is nice now that its up and running well.

oh and btw if you dont have a manual I would suggest getting the haynes or yamaha manual. ?shows you everything you'll ever need on this bike, even if you not a wrench like some of us cough...me...cough..cough. ?

oops i typed the url incorrectly, now its fixed.  click on the url and the troubleshooting chart is under the tech support and then fault finding diagram.  its a pdf file you have to download and you should be set to go.  If it turns out that the stator is bad, as a bit of advice you may want to either order the crankcase gasket or get a roll of paper gasket to make one on your own.  When you pull the cover off 9 times out of 10 the damn thing rips apart.

Simply check the three white stator wires - if there is continuity with earth (body of bike) then wave the stator goodbye. I had mine rewired (much much much cheaper) and it charges as a new one. Then again I am in "dark Africa" : where we do everything by hand.....................  :P :P :P
