Title: 2009 OnROV Spring Ride...
Post by: Tiger on January 04, 2009, 10:30:26 AM
:) Here we are into 2009 and here I go again, with what is now becoming a well supported annual event...

"The OnROV Spring Ride"

...and again, it will be held on the Canadian holiday May twofour weekend...Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May 2009.

As we have no plans to extend our wee abode...our bungalow...sleeping arrangements are tight and therefore people will have to use their tent/trailer or a local motel.

:) "The Mistress" is all but ready after the January 1st fall from the trailer. The new fairing, dash board, mirrors, signal indicators, rear light cowl, backrest pad, etc, etc are all fitted ...(just awaiting my "new" hard bags to come back from painting this coming week...thanks vadasz1 )...and she will be all set for her shake down ride.

Oil change done, new air filter fitted, battery all charged up, etc, etc.... ;)

The 2009 OnROV Spring Ride is now...

8).......only 10 weeks away!!! ....... 8)

.......and up till now I have , with me, seven confirmed attendees... 8)

  8).......TIGER
  8).......CanadianLou...Mississauga native.
8).......Night_Vision...long haulin' up from Syracuse, New York State!!!
8).......Joevac...looong hauling up from New York, New York!!!
  8).......Kenny...coming in from Trenton!
8).......Fiddlesticks...(our one and only female rider  )...coming in from Barrie area!
8).......Wolf...Trekking it up here from the Sarnia area... 8)

This will be our forth year  and each year we get a wee bit bigger ...the addition of kev10104 and his nice Red & White '83 from the east side of Toronto, along with xswheels on his Black '82 coming up from Sarnia will swell our Vision ranks again... Big Danno from Listowel, may join us...on a Yamaha but he may not have his Vision by then...but still a welcome rider no less...a big welcome to the three of you .

We are all aware that there is a wee bit of a down turn in the economy at present, which will effect some of us more than others. However, I would really appreciate your input and let me know, as best you can and as soon as possible, if you will (or will not) be attending our annual get together.
It helps Cathy and I work out: food & drink for the Saturday night BBQ, ride routes, stops for food/gas, etc, sleeping arrangements, over night parking, etc, etc (Annie, my next door neighbour, has kindly allowed us the use of here garage again).

We have no problem for those who have a trailer, tents, etc...

Cathy and I look forward, once again, to opening our house to our friend's, old & new... 8)

:) We now have 9 Visions  in place for the ride and several more owners to answer the call...which means that the OnROV could very well host a North American record number of Visions come spring. Wouldn't that be cool boy's 'n girlie's.

I will scout out the three nearest motels in Orangeville for rates and availability over the next week as the "Tiger Motel & Resort" is at capacity :o ;D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well Mr John Looks like we will be camping at Elora gorge for the May 24 weekend, not soo far from y'all lol. Had some issues with the paint this winter, i took the cover off of her to find most of the paint has flaked off the top of the gastank, this would be due to the fact that I used furniture lacquer instead of automotive paint. I have managed to repair and touch up the tank with the clever use of some flat black rust paint, she still looks mean, and runs great. Those 83 risers have really saved my back. I'll try and get a pic of the new flat black accents.

Was wondering if that red Vision was still available the one you emailed me about. Jane has the bike fever and needs to get riding badly ! 800.00 would be about right.

Man! It really is true, own a v long enough, and you get to the point where you just lean the damn thing against a tree, rip the burnt out stator out , put in a functioning one and KEEP ON GOING!! See you soon, Tiger---xs and I are hitting the road at ten.--wolf.

A super ride again as usual. Tigers hospitality is second to none. Canadian Lou picked some of the nicest roads I have been on in ages. Some were quite challenging in the drizzle we ran in and out of on Saturday. Over all we barely had any rain at all, and everone came prepared with rain gear so it was mostly a non issue. A weekend of riding, riding, riding, eating, drinking, working on bikes, and talking about them, sleeping. Then waking up and getting to do it all over again. What more is there in life when you have good bikes, good friends, and overall good weather.  ;D  ;D
All the bikes ran beautifully and brought thier owners home again safe and sound with the exception of a minor tip over which resulted in nothing more than a cracked signal lense. If thats the worst part of the weekend your doing pretty damned good.  One particular highlight was making a wrong turn at the border and getting to each pay 3.75 to get back into a country we never left. Oh wait a minute that was poopy lol. Someone better have a talk with our navigator. Just kidding Tiger haha
I for one had an incredible time. Hope to see everyone again soon.

Yaaaaaaaaafucinnnnnhoooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was good!  1119.5 miles!  I did not bring my Vision :-[ but I offered a test ride to Night Vision and he kept it for over an hour!  ;D ;)  So I did get to ride his V, if only for a while.

As always Tiger and his beautiful bride make it look so easy!  Thank you both from the bottom of my heart!!
How can you beat friends, bikes, great home cooked food, Canadian beer, and some bottles of scotch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (don't try- can't be done)

Unfuckinbeliveable tour by Canadian Lou! ;)  (we are saved) over 200 miles! truly a riders ride!!  8) 8)

Great to see fiddlesticks, wolf and Lead Deficiency again! :D It has been an absolute privilege to meet xswheels, kev10104 and his wife, beast and all of the other usual suspects!    The company is my favorite part!

Riding home was a real blast!!! ;)
I hit hard all the way to my house!  Brilliant, just Brilliant!  Made record time.   :-X

Looking forward to the next one!  As I said to Tiger these are the best rides of my life!
Title: Re: 2009 OnROV Spring Ride...
Post by: Tiger on May 18, 2009, 10:42:13 AM
:o O.K...were did everyone go... ??? We have an empty house now that the "OnROV Family" have all gone back to their own homesteads!!! Geeeee, its real quiet around here...suppose I better go and wash "The Mistress" as she is looking kinda scuzzy after all the miles we have done over such a great weekend... 8)

This weekend started on Friday with the arrival of Joevac all the way from New York. Joe was escorted to the Canadian border by Night_Vision, (who sadly had to miss this ride due to family commitments...you where missed brother :(). Joe was then escorted all the way from the border to my place by Canadian_Lou, (Thank you C_L, much appreciated)... 8)

Next we had the arrival of Wolf...who had to do a stator change the day before!!!...and along side him, for the first time, xswheels, who bought "The Fat Lady" from me last fall, and now known as "Black Betty" (for reasons we won't get into on this family channel!!!) all the way in from Sarnia... 8)

Next up was "beast", our latest member, who's Vision hasn't been "tagged" since '95 and has sat in my garage for a week getting work done. He brought over a set of MAC's as the OEM set was done ::) A BIG thank you to Canadian_Lou, who I rang on Thursday night at 9 p.m, in need of a clean set of carbs for beasts Vision :o..after burning the midnight oil, he had a set done for me to pick up on Friday morning!!! :o 8) With a clean set of carbs and Mac's in hand, xswheels and I set about beasts ride. In a couple of hours she was up-and-running for the first time in FOURTEEN years :o 8) 8). She was eventually loaded on to beasts pick-up truck and off a very happy new Visionary went in to the sunset...to get a good nights sleep and to get ready for his first ride on his Vision and his new extended family ;D ;D ;D... 8) By the time Fiddlesticks arrived we had Wolf's Vision in, oil drained and the left side engine cover off :o (Remember the stator change the day before :-\ well, Wolf didn't have a new side cover gasket and "The Flyin' Banana" was bleeding when they arrived). No big deal...I made a new side cover gasket, put her all back together, refilled her with oil and VOILA!!!...neeeext ;)

Next...was to get washed up and feed the family, some of whom were now eyeing up the dogs bones :o ;D :D :D :D :D Not surprising' as it was now 9.15 p.m!!! Now fed, the banter as well as the alcohol freely flowed :o ::) ;D :D :D :D...we managed to get rid of a twofour of beer and (Thank you Wolf) a bottle of Jamiesons Irish Whisky, before retiring to bed around 1.30 a.m.

Saturday morning arrived with a terrific thunder/lightning/rain storm at 5 a.m. >:( followed by some more rain around 6.30 a.m...bugger!!! By the time Wolf, xswheels, Fiddlesticks, Big Barrie ('76 Goldwing), Wee Barre ('02 Magna/Shadow??) and I set out from my place, a little after 8 a.m...the rain had stopped but the roads were very wet...Sadly this did put a few people off :( However, we set out and arrived at "Breezy Corners" restaurant to be met by Canadian_Lou, kev10104 and his wife Tammy, beast and Dave (xs400) for breakfast. Once fed and watered, we gassed up the "ponies" and led by this years "Road Captain"...Canadian_Lou...off we went for our days excursion to...?????
Canadian_Lou took us on a 200+ mile journey around some of the best roads that this part of Ontario has to offer 8) We had those long straights, twists & turns, some on long down and up hills...These roads can be quite challenging for seasoned riders, given the wet & windy weather, let alone beast, who was on his first ride in several years and on a bike with a "cloudy" history...and...that was just fired up and running properly (well, nearly/almost!!) the day before after fourteen years!!!
We had several stops along the way...coffee/gas/pee, coffee/gas/pee, etc...you get the picture!! This gives you the chance to shoot the breeze with your co riders about the weather, that "nearly" accident, that "almost-shit-me-pants" bend back there!!, the "did you see this or that over by, etc, etc... ;D :D :D 8)
We arrived back at my place for around 5 p.m. a wee bit damp, none the worse for ware :o ;D :D :D :D, and ALL with "THAT" grin-on-your-face look that speaks a million words 8) Those that missed the ride fearing the wet day ahead missed a great day out as it never really rained on the ride as such...the odd spot now and again ;) windy but warm... :) At this point I have to thank Cathy, my wife, who had prepared all the food and a large urn of steamin' hot coffee, which was all awaiting our arrival... 8) There was fresh cooked ham, hot meat balls in a crock pot, hot beans in another crock pot, potato salad, carrot salad, etc, etc...and enough alcohol to float a ship!!!
We were joined on the night by Lead_Deficiency, Art' and his wife Bonny...(Art bought the first Vision that I rebuilt and sold a couple of years ago...which in turn now has a new owner) and Big Barrie's wife Doris. The conversation flowed, like the beer, aaaaaaall night. We finally packed it in and headed for bed around 2 a.m.!!!
Sunday morning seemed to come around real quick, maybe to quick for some :o ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Once everyone was up, showered, packed, loaded up and hot coffee downed, we said our goodbye's to Wolf and Gord (xswheels) and headed out. The sun was shining bright but man was it windy and kinda cool ::) We...Joevac, Fiddlesticks, beast, Cathy and I headed out around 9 a.m, down and around some great roads and back to "Breezy Corners" for a great feed and to relive some of yesterday with (kev10104) kev and Tammy and Dave (who was now riding his Suzi 550!!) who joined us there. Once again fed and the rides gassed up we headed for the border to wave goodbye to Joevac, headed for New York and several more hours in the saddle of that really nice Moto Guzzi he brought up to Canada with him 8) I kinda made a miss call at this point...we headed in to "no mans land", sort of, 'ish :o ::) I had taken us into an area that meant we had to get an escort...by a nice government lady in a golf cart!!...back around and into the line up to ENTER Canada!!! I had to explain the mistake to a border guard ( who wasn't impressed ??? ::))..we got through but...to add insult to injury...we all had to pay a toll charge of $3.75 to get back into our country that we had never actually left!!! >:( ::) ;D ;D ;D...Ah well...We ran down and through Niagara Falls and eventually...after the obligatory coffee/gas stop...said our goodbyes and headed home. We arrived home around 6.30/7.00 p.m. to be greeted by our two dog's ;D ;D ;D ;D... 8) We were cold and well knackered after driving in some really windy weather conditions all day...phew!!! After a hot shower, a change of clothes, something to eat and a well earned couple of beers we settled back in for the night...ahhhhhhhhh, good night, (click) lights out...zzzzzzzzz!!!

:) These ride days/weekends are made great by all those superb people that attended and continue to get together each year. Thank you all that attended, new and old friends alike...but all friends 8) Thank you to Canadian_Lou for a fine route on Saturday and not least to my wife Cathy for putting up with ALL my b.s... :o ;)

I look forward to meeting you all again on the next ride...were ever/when ever that may be...

"May you all be in heaven an hour before the Devil knows your dead" ;) (old Irish prayer)... 8)

It was surely a very satisfying day!  I can't say it as colorfully as Joe  :o , but everyone has painted a pretty nice picture.  I can say that the new members are continuing in the fine ROV tradition of being a genuine good-natured bunch. They were all a pleasure to meet, chat and ride with.  Everyone made a worthy contribution to the festivities.

I must say that we have some very capable riders as you were put to the test a few times during the day and even our newest rider proved to be pretty cool under sometimes challenging conditions.  Fiddlesticks gets the award for still speaking nicely to one of our riders (no names) who stopped  ??? in front of her on our hillclimb section.  We were all a bit too cozy on that one.

Special thanks to John & Cathy for splendid hospitality and care of the Vision riders, the food was outstanding and your friendship is second to none.

What a great way to start what promises to be an exciting Vision season  :D.  We missed a few good riders this time, but hope to see all of you some time soon too.  Looking forward to the August trip in eastern New York!   8)

This was my debut to Tiger's Spring Ride and the opportunity to meet a lot of great ROV members. I rode up with Wolf who led the ride on some truly inspiring roads and scenic towns. Friday afternoon and early evening was spent in and around Tigers garage. Tiger was greeting; hosting, cooking, entertaining with a wrench in his hand while changing out carbs & exhaust on Adams' Vision. I went for a short toot to get a feel for the town of Erin and on returning I met the raconteur Joevacc. We all shared stories and beer awaiting the arrival of Fiddlesticks. What a great biker gal, just like one of the guys. Once a beer was cracked there was no more riding, so we told stories; regaled a sumptuous Bar-B-Que, and kept cracking.
The next morning our group took a squiggly line to the restaurant and met up with the rest of the gang. Cdnlouie took us on a superb planned route that was in an area I previously never considered luring. It's now a must return for me.
I have new tapered steering stem bearings that were installed 1000 kilometers ago, but oddly enough they were still not bedded in. Several rips up and down Hamilton Mountain got them clacking.
More great roads, a few Dr. Pepper stops, more laughs, a few holy shit did you feel that side wind, and by 5:30 our adventure ended at Tigers place. Smiles all around. We ate, drank and were merry once again with even more company.
In the morning we hugged and said our good byes, Wolf and I headed home. You know, I'm glad I bought that Vision.
