Thank you very much! As you say they usually salt the roads here so that is probably the source of the issue.

I am still confused why these specific bolts have rusted while the rest look really good. I guess the easy explanation is that the previous owner replaced the others.

I'll order replacements and coat them in Corrosion X before installing and then also use it to care for my bike.

Just thinking about our annual Geezer Ride (mid Oct.) and having uneasy thoughts about the regular route as some of it is currently within the Caldor Fire perimeter.  Hopefully the fire will be out before long.  We need rain before I will go on that route, as the fire equipment will have tracked significant dirt and debris on the road.  A good rain can wash the roadway clean but after a burn the rain can also wash mud across the pavement or cause slumps as banks and roads can collapse.  Burnt areas don't hold the water very well so most of it runs off causing erosion and carrying the soil downhill.

Mo vision, so, how is the painting process going?  What problems have you encountered?

We have a product here called Corrosion X that is supposed to do the same thing.

From your pics I assume you are very near the ocean or in an area that salts the roads during winter time.  There is a solution used by many of the land speed racers that go to the Bonneville salt flats, it is called Salt-X or something like that.  As long as your bike is exposed to salt it will corrode.   The Salt-X solution is to be sprayed on the vehicle before exposure to salt and allowed to dry, and then again after is was exposed to rinse off the accumulated salt.  generally use cold water for rinsing, as warm water tends to activate the salt and make it more aggressive.  Warm water is great IF you get ALL the salt off, but if ANY remains it becomes more active.

Hello all!

I just got my XZ550 and realized that there are a few bolts that have rusted much mre than others. Does anyone have any idea why and what I should do to ensure the next part doesn't rust like this? (Special metal, coat the part, just avoid water?)

Please see attached images!

It is very good to see all six manufacturers represented in the top six finishers.  DORNA has achieved their goal of making things competitive for everyone so there is closer and more exciting racing to draw larger crowds.  Now if they could get rid of that pesky virus the crowds could attend in greater numbers.($)  I think it is amazing that such races are made to happen in spite of very low spectator attendance and consequent low financial income from the ticket sales.

Some first lap attrition as Marquez loses the front and takes out rookie Martin (Ducati).  It is clear from the slowMo video Marc's front tire lost traction and skated across the track into Martin, taking them both down and out.  Losing the front is one of the main problems Honda needs to improve.  This is not a new problem, as Cal Crutchlow also complained in years past of the tendency of the Honda to lose the front, resulting in going down.

Pol Espargaro / REPSOL HONDA sitting in pole position this time.  Quartararo still starting on the front row.  Marquez in second row.  This is shaping up to be a rather crowded first turn scramble.  I hope they all get through the first few turns safely.  Actually, I hope they all get through the whole race safely.  We will know how it all went sometime within the next 15 hours or so.

It is pleasing to see challengers to Quarteraro's recent  blazing dominance.  Martin, Espargaro, Marquez, Bagnaia, and others look to be competitive, so it should be a good race on Sunday.  England, ya know, so weather will be unknown until it happens.  Both Marquez and Quarteraro have taken tumbles in practice, let's hope no one gets hurt.
