I just posted a note about my Vision that I'm reimporting from the Isle of Man. I want to do something similar to what you're doing, make a little hotrod out of it. I've also got an '83 that I will always keep stock but the '82 is going to get customized.

My question to you is, how much lighter is the Mac system than the stock exhaust and how much louder is it? I don't really like loud bikes. I ride long distances and loud pipes may save lives but they kill eardrums.

exactly how much i couldn't say, but it's a considerable difference. it's also a performance boost too (no rejetting required)  the baffles, unless bent or seiezed, are removable. fwiw, Mac doesn't reccomend more than light packing.

Do you think it's really faster or just is louder and sounds like it's going faster? I don't guess anyone has put one on the dyno to see.

You're 17 and you discovered the Vision? How on earth did that happen? Most of us here are quite a bit older than you and actually remember when Yamaha tried to sell this bike into a market that either a) wasn't very sophisticated or b) did know what to make of it. At any rate, it's a nice community here and nobody's pompous or insecure but surprisingly helpful. (Someone should research why that's so.) I like your "rat bike" Vision. I'd just add some bullet holes to the tank for that final touch. And everyone with a motorcycle has secretly wanted a rat bike that you don't wash, you don't fix beyond streetability (or legality), you just ride it.

I think I know why the people here are friendly and helpful, even our experts don't know everything so when a person needs technical help or parts it's a lot easier to find help when you've been helpful.  Believe also that that the Vision attracts the type of riders that are sensible and practical from a mechanical as well as financial viewpoint. Notice how sociable the Visioneers are even when from other countries and speaking different languages. Even without admin having to control what's going on, the guys here maintain a friendly and clean atmosphere that brings people back to visit and share what they have learned.    BDC
