If you you drop a little fuel down both carb throats will the bike fire? If you spray ether/aka starter fluid down the carb throats will the bike fire?

Marios

Pull a plug wire in put a spare plug in the cap  , ground it to the head and observe if it has spark.  As to a good mechanic in San Diego , good luck . Most of them weren't born when this bike was made , Its a differant animal. It will only confuse  most of them and waste your money.

Correction:
I got up this morning determined to make the vision at least fire up. So I tried the sparks and there is a spark in them. So I then dropped less fuel on the carbs throats and this time it started!!!  Heck it even sounded good!!! So what is wrong with it. It has to be in the carbs, right? So I took the fuel line that connects the carbs and the petcock and blew through it, but my air wasnt going through the pipe. Is that an indication of what may be wrong??
Also I am no expert in rebuilding carbs so I am thinking to save time to have an expert do it. Anyone on this site offering to do that for a fee?

See subject: Guidance................ on the General Board, specifically Rick G. response.

FYI: on this forum there are often a lot of very similar conversations happening simultaneously on the General and Tech boards.  To get the full benefit of ROV check and stay on top of both of these boards as much as possible.  At least once a day is a good plan.

Ok gents.... I got it to run and it runs well. Little stumble at around 3-5k rpm.
The part that I am not happy at all is that it is leaking oil pretty badly with smoke coming from the rear cylinder. Got to get down there and see where the leak comes from

Buy a can of cheap carb cleaner and a can of talcum powder.. Hose the area you see oil coming from and when its dry put some talc in your palm and blow it onto the area  where you suspect that oil is leaking from. start the engine briefly and them inspect the area in question . You will see a discolouration in the oil where the leak originates.
