Would a bad stator cause a bike to die after running for 25 minutes or so and not restart plus being sluggish when cranking right after it died and then when the bike is cool start and run just fine?

that's exactly what I'm going through now.. see my post about stator #4..

I'm glad to hear that you are having the same problem.... seriously... cuz I'm near the end of replacing my stator and R&R and I found that one of the side stand switch wires was nicked, and I've been thinking that maybe that was shorting me out AFTER the bike warmed up...

I fixed the wire so I'll never know if that was it  :-\

Where is that thread?  I looked for a thread with stator in the subject and didn't find anything.

The symptoms you describe , do indicate a fault in the charging system. Probably the stator , is near death but not dead yet. I went through this with my VX800 , not long ago.

How long do the Rick's stators last?  Better than buying a used oem from a different model bike?

I recommend staying away from Chinese stators... find a Tim Parrot (is he still winding them?) or I've had good luck with Honda Shadow stators

You have actually used a Honda Shadow stator in the XZ?  Were there any modifications that were necessary?  Which Honda Shadow?

Has anyone actually used the Rick's stator to know how long they last?

VT500

the only hard part is getting their rubber grommets off (they mold them on good!) and getting their 3 wires through the vision's grommets.  their wires or casing is slightly thicker... you do have to solder extensions to the wires to reach our R&R... not a big deal

look for a nice juicy caramel colored one like this..

I put a used Vision stator in my VX , I had to extend the wires about 14 inches. It was one I already had . I have one from a Virago and a 2003 Eletrex, as well. There is a list of stators that will interchange with the vision , It used to be on their web site , but they have omited it.

I'm an info packrat, anytime I run across interesting/useful info I tend to save it. I've saved a lot of info off this board during my year of trolling it.  I don't know offhand which post/page this came from, or whom to credit, but here ya go!

Here is a list of other bikes that use the G7 stator (same as the Vision...)

Beware of the dreaded stator list. At least one on that list is too big and will not fit. Some will fit with reduced output compared to stock. Most (if not all) will require some degree of modification relative to the grommets, wiring, R/R plug etc. Best to search the forums for ones that have been used successfully rather than blindly choosing one and hoping it will work. Or invest in one designed for the Vision.  :)
