Anyone have any tips on restoring "greyed" (weathered)rubber such as brake and clutch lever boots, mirror boots and driveshaft boots?

HI!

Hi LUcky I have wonderful spray for restoring such "greyed" rubber elements in POland.

After a month of using it regulary my old rubber parts were shining as they were new. The aerosol is waterproof and can be used to blacken your tires also.

All the black plastic parts (like rear fender) can be restored to.

OK, it is Polish product and its name is OIL SILL. But anyway u won't get it at your stores. Insted of that buy any of the sprays which consist of SILICONE or SILICONE oil. I think that CARPLANT has one and also STP. It is just SILICONE aerosol and it works GREAT.

Ok there is still one thing I often Use and it is also perfect. You can acquire it at drugstore. It is called SILOL and is used to cure severe burns.

It is like like thick OIL and seems to be greasy in touch. But after using it it is not sticky at all.

Some people use it to restore leather also. Works great. Sometimes I use it to make my saddle shine. Also helps a lot with black plastic (tank cap) and rubber.

I just use olive oil, or any vegetable oil.  Put it on with one cloth ( turns that ugly greyed plastic and rubber back to its original splendor like *MAGIC*),  then buff off with a clean rag.  I did it a year ago and my plastic and rubber surfaces still look glossy with that wonderful, jet-black color, with no oily residue.

Try it,  soon you'll be singing the praises of cooking oil, just like me!

Gee Lucky if it was me I'd use the cooking oil, it sounds like FUN. But it would be more fun if your wife or girlfriend helps put in on. Maybe if you just sit back with a beer in hand and watch her go at it.  I think Hugh Jass knows something we don't
