how do I get the clutch cable off ?

GT @ oh.

Got the stator cover lose need to disconnect cable . Do I just spread the jaws apart ..(remove)..then squeeze back ..(to assemble).             sorry for the dumb q's

Do dumb questions here - just dumb mechanics!   ;D  (just kidding)

There's a tab that gets bent out of the way to release that end of the clutch cable.  You are correct in the procedure.  Last time I did mine, it felt like the metal was suffering some fatigue - it bent with less force.  going to see if there is an alternate method of bending the tab or attaching the cable next time I do mine.
