I dug into the bike today..... to track down stator connecter..... with the three white wires. If the r/r gets hot.... like I've read .....its no wonder the wires melt ..........they were tucked right under/upagainst the r/r :o........ with exposed wire coming out the backside of one of the connecters :o.The connecter itself isn't to corroded (but some) so I'll have to lose the connecter.I'll most likely put three single male/female con..... (so if I have to disconnect down the road)....then tape up together.I'm trying to track down the thick black ground wire from the r/r...... to see if its corroded at frame...... can someone tell me where it ends up???      Thank you Greg

That is your ground, it ends up under the left coil.  I clean that connection every so often, and run an additional wire from that black wire directly to the battery for an extra ground.
A bad marrage is like dirty carbs... It just makes everything else suck.

You know, I looked at that wire this last weekend, and carefully sanded down the paint under it and all that.  I got 0 resistance from the battery connection to the front of the frame.  However, I'm not sure that wire is big enough to handle the current that needs to go through it.  I may end up running another ground wire to the frame.

I'll let people know what (and why) if I do.

VR- you are right , that wire isnt really big enough to handle the workload . you can creat "sections " where the wire is grounded to frame in several othe rplaces, or , as i did , create multiple grounds in groups, allowing that oem ground to carry only one or two devices.

Now If only I knew where the left coil is :(..... and what it looks like  :(

Brian Moffet

Under the tank, where the frame comes together at the steering head, there are two objects that look like cylinders, you can find them by following the spark plug leads up.  There is one on the left under the bracing and one on the right.

It will be right under where the frames joins together, not a great picture of the coils, just where they are.

VR - what a nice looking and shiny frame! I am impressed ;D

brian,, lol  same paint i am using on my resto bike!!rustoleum appliance epoxy  gloss black , 3.99 at hardware store.

you can actually paint entire bike with it,, just be sure to wait that one week after first coat and water sand w/ 1000 grit paper to set up for second coat---- looks like powder coating when done in two caots and buffed /waxed .      also is fuel proof .
