just found out that the gasket for the left side cover is 16 from the dealership.. anyone have a template?? I have material to cut.. the old gasket was thrashed so I COULD make a template from it, but it wouldnt be perfect.. I used ultra copper RTV, with good results,, a slight weeping and thats it,  ,, but would like a gasket to make sure of no leaks..  If I have to order one,, Ill make a stencil for it... I also need a valve adjustment tool.. Anyone have one I can borrow for a minute and send back??  Times a REALLY tough around here $$$wise...

It shouldnt leak, even a little. The reason its weeping is probably because you didnt clean off one or both the sides good enough. Make sure all gasket pieces are actually gone, and every surface is perfectly and absolutely clean before you rtv it. You have to seal the wire grommet as well, thats a good place for leftover rtv or gasket to adhere to and create a sealing problem.

lol,,, Im sure the job is suspect,, it was my first time with rtv.. I have nothing but good things to say about the experience though.. I would use it again.. I WOULD take more time with the sandpaper..Im gonna let it ride for now,, see how bad it gets when it really gets warm a few times.. if its bad,, Ill re-do it... I have MORE RTV!!!! lol...

Get a green scrubber pad and use it to clean the gasket surfaces. Be sure wipe the area clean with a rag and something like lacquer thinner or alcohol.

I used fine sandpaper and brake cleaner.. I just didnt spend enough time doing it.. No problem.. It was good practice..

The green scrubber pads do less to wear the gasket surface than, sand paper. I was turned on to this by The guys at Dream Machines , the parent company to Dunton Motor sports, where I worked.

Just be thorough about it and take your time. I use a razor blade edge wise along the gasket surface and carefully peel/shave the gasket off. You have to have practice or be careful cause you can easily take a chunk of sealing surface out like that.
You can always go the chemical route and get spray on gasket remover. That shit is nasty, and it'll strip the gross yellow clear coat off the engine, and the paint off the frame, and your skin from your bones, but it'll definitely remove gaskets in one shot if you let it sit a while.
