Essential Carb Tuning Resources
« on: May 16, 2013, 09:54:35 AM »
Hello everybody. It's spring again, which means that we have a lot of new members and fresh Vision owners. As it seems that everyone has to work with their carbs at least a little to get everything running smooth, I thought I'd post a collection of links that I've found to be useful resources. If you're having a carb issue, please take a look at these posts. There's a very good chance that the problem you have has already been asked and solved by the group! Happy tuning and good luck!             Jim

What about changing the title to essential links, and do the same for all major bike repairs / activity.  Get Ron to sticky it

There have been several other essential  posts that have been suggested for the 'sticky" awards. Where do we find the "stickies"? Thanks

Go into any of the boards from HOME
Each board has its own stickies at the top in a different colour, but they aren't exactly the most helpful, unless you want to buy into Lucky's paranoia about brake bar bolts.

I love posts like this! They make being thorough an easy task.

Someone else recently brought up a similar idea of having a thread dedicated to the essential stuff. I think this is a great idea.

Never miss a chance to take a shot, huh Roro?  That's ok, your welcome to ignore that particular post of course, it's not like they ever break with violent results... Naw, never...

Sorry Lucky - I'm not "taking a shot".  I DO think it is paranoia, I DONT think it is paranoia because you posted it.  I didn't mean any personal offence.

The point I was trying (flippantly) to make is that there are heaps of things worth having stickies for, such as this post which was supposed to be about carb tuning.

Of course brake bolts break on occasion.  Kiawrench is an example.  But it's not common.  If it was it would be all over the net for all sorts of bikes that have the same design.  I love the idea of stickies and one for "highly recommended" items would be very helpful. I can think of a couple of dozen items that would be good - it seems silly to just concentrate on one fairly rare failure item to the exclusion of others.

Roro, you're right, that same bolt is used on many Yamahas. I'm sure a few riders have experienced the same failure on those models too. I wouldn't call the problem an epidemic but I'm sure it's happened.  PS2 mentioned it happened on his dirt bike. Just in this relatively small community kiawrench, don_vaneck, and dieseler had the same failure. There are probably others I'm unaware of. Maybe there are members who don't post or do but are embarrassed to admit they had it happen?

I don't think it's a matter of how often it happens but how catastrophic the results can be if it happens. If it were an isolated incident you could disregard it. Once there are a few more reported cases, then it becomes more of a "thing".  :) I'd want to know about it if I was a new Visionary. Just my 2 cents.  8)

Not long after I purchased my new Vision, the rear brake stay bolt evidently broke off and disappeared.  I discovered this as I was walking up to the bike to ride home.  Fortunately I donít use the rear brake very often.

I think Yamaha may have procured a bad lot of these bolts or overtorqued them at the factory.
