I'm bike shopping (gasp!!!) and stumbled upon this website: http://ecommerce-motors.com/dropshop.dllsafestore3242342/how_it_works.html

It appears to be a "we sell it on ebay" type of middleman service for vehicles in classified ads. Apparently, they act as a middle man for the sale and protect both parties. You make payment to an Escrow account, they ship you the bike, you get to inspect the bike for 10 days, and if you're happy you transfer the Escrow and receive the title.

It seemed fishy to me at first, because I'm always on the lookout for internet scams, but I Googled the crap out of it and it appears to be completely legit.

Has anybody done business through ecommerce-motors before?

Figures... It's a scam.

They wanted me to use moneygram to pay them a deposit, which is strictly against moneygram policy. Moneygram is person to person only, should never be used for anything online, it's cash only, and there is no recourse or buyer protection. They charge a killing too, so I wouldn't use it for anything ever.

Googled it more and the sweater started to unravel down the rabbit hole :)

They change names constantly, and plant lots of good fake reviews so that you can't find any dirt on them. Their phone number is disconnected, they're not a registered business, and their address belongs to a condo with no owner. Plus, if you dig a little deeper, their website is less than a week old!

fret not

Retired, on the downhill slide. . . . . . . . still feels like going uphill!
