My stator plans include on-the-road replacement (with the bike tilted over against a tree) and rewinding the next one that fries.

There are different wire types for rewinding, check out http://www.mwswire.com/inschar.htm, and I think our wonderful Vision needs some of the higher spec stuff to deal with its elevated internal temperatures.
