Cafesque Vision chop sketch

I was playing around in MS paint while at work, and came up with the sketch below. I was inspired by the drag bike in the gallery. My vision is in pretty sad shape, and I do have the equipment to make the cuts and welds...Has anyone here tried drastically altering the Vision?

     my first vision looked a lot like that ,, after the big slide at the dragon,,,, but it wasnt so neatly done .

   only problem i see is rear lights and rider back rash. the lights can be resolved, but the rider is going to be pelted non stop by road gunk when in motion.
   tape a 6 in by 6 in paper under the rear fender, ride it for a day, then look at paper-- it wont be the bike's fault, but these 2 wheel motorized transport devices kick up some trash , we just dont normally see it ,, thanks to a rear fender and tail section.
          but if yo udo it and it works ,,, i may be tempted to get some chop work myself,, narrow the fat frame in seat area so it can handle a smaller rider's butt.

Interesting. Remove centerstand, change headlight from single to double (i had), that would be nice. But what about convenience? If you lower the seat, how comfortable it will be to take sharp and fast corners (you wont be cruising a lot like that  :D)? And i can just imagine, how you would do on a wet track ;D Again, my V has shortened back end and has only number-plate without fender and i am getting wet and muddy really quick ;).

Yup, did it in MS Paint. Years of boredom at work and home have made me an ms paint artiste! I'd love to see pictures of anyone else who's made modifications to their Vision. My idea with the forks was to raise them in the tripple clamp to lower the front end, but use Maxim forks with the leading axle to compensate for the angle.

The most way out mod I ever seen was in Cycle World Mag.In there series calld American Flyers some one chopped up a vision using A solo seat.Strange but differant.It was in a past issue about two years ago.

Would someone please explain to me why everytime I read this thread title, in my head I hear "kafkaesque" vision??? I don't even know what that would mean...a really depressed Vision??  ???

While I'm here...I've heard the term Cafe Racer/rider before...anyone care to explain to the ignorant what that means??

In Britain, in the 1950s & 60s, it was a common occurrence for motorcycle riders to race from one cafe (pub) to the next one down the road.  They would modify their bikes to help with aerodynamics by putting on 'clip on' style handlebars & remove most of the extra trim to save weight.  These bikes began the 'cafe racer' styling.  The big thing they wanted to brag about was the ability of their bike to "do a ton" which translates to going over 100 MPH.  This is a very brief history of the advent of 'cafe racer' bikes.

Perhaps some of our friends on the East side of the pond can fill in any gaps or clarify any errors I might have made.  Am going from memory of an article I read a couple years ago about Triumph Motorcycles of the 1960s as my information source.

That's pretty interesting.  Kind of similar to one of my long term ideas of replaceing it with a custom tail and aluminum subframe (though without a bob).  I'm just not sure about how chopping the frame at the mid point would effect chassis rigidity.

You will defenatly have a dirty bike at that point, fitting a rear fender would help keep dirt off your undertail.  It might work if you fitted it with a mini half fender like some of the Bimmer dualies have.  Just big enough to keep the dirt off your back but not big enough to cover the entire wheel.

the mud slinging problem can be solved with a bit of thought-- sport bikes have bolt on rear huggers, mounted in the swingarm pivot . to build the chopped/bobbed/cafe bike shown, you would need to design a hugger, mount it from the swingarm, and as long as you are there, mount your rear lights and tag from there.    clean ,neat and actually a working solution.


    the mount would have to be four point , for stability
    the hugger would need to cover from swing arm pivot to just under the mid point of the seat you have on the picture
     steel will be your only real option for material, for stability/strength
     lights and plate could mount directly to the hugger, with plate in 90 degree mount,, still legal, and visible, but not taking away from look of the bike . that or high mount the plate at a 45 degree angle and hope you dont get a ticket .

Nicely explained H20, that's pretty much it if you want to keep it short... And since my bike is not an air cooled, british parallel twin, it can't really be a café racer...

And, Serendipity, I supposed "kafkaesque" would work for a modified Vision; after all, if it's modified, it could be qualified as "metamorphosed"...  ;D
