...and some... ;)

I started to strip her down...  :o The fairing, gas tank, body plastic's, etc are all boxed up for the journey to the paint shop... 8)

A wee rodent had a winter home in the headlight bucket and chewed the insulation off of the headlight wire's :o ::)...easy fix.

The battery I discarded...it charged up, but has a picture of Noah's Ark on the side ;D ;D :D :D :D... ;)

The carb's are off and need to be stripped and cleaned... ::)

The carb intake boot's are off and new one's acquired... 8)

I removed the seat, which is perfect. Cleaned and stored away, for now.

The gas tank has been repaired. I washed it out a few times and let stand overnight with a gallon of gas inside and sat it on some paper towel's...pleased to say NO leak(s) detected either from the repair's or the petcock... 8)

I will up-date as I go along... ;)

If you have an accident on a motorcycle, it's always your fault. Tough call, but it has to be that way. You're in the right, and dead -on a bike. The principle is not to have any accident. If you're involved in an an accident, it's because you did not anticipate. Then, by default, you failed.

Tiger

:o I can't let you see my girl half naked...pervert :o ;D ;D ;D ;D :D :D :D :D... ;) I'll post some soon.

:) I decided to do the steering head bearing's to-day...Prior to starting the strip down, I had prepped another lower triple tree unit. Cleaned, repainted and lower roller bearing installed.
I pulled the front wheel, disconnected the brake caliper's, slid the fork's out, removed the steering head nut and...the top half of the triple tree's, with the ignition switch/warning light's, refused to come off of the steering stem :o :o A few blows with a rubber mallet didn't budge it...wtf :o Soooo, sprayed a liberal dose of penetrating fluid over her, left for a while, came back, a few whacks from the old rubber mallet and.......nothing :o ??? O.K. time for the BFH. It took several well placed blows but, as you would expect, I won ;D ;D :D :D... ;) Removed the two head nut's and as I lifted the bearing cover, expecting ball bearing's dropping and rolling around the floor, I find that sometime in the past the previous owner HAD ALREADY replaced the steering head bearing's/race's ::) 8)...Anyhooo, cleaned out the old, s****y grease, etc, with a can of brake and part's cleaner, wiped everything completely clean, greased her up and installed the lower triple tree...another job completed... 8) I will have to wait for the upper tree (spare one), to come back from the painter's to install it , along with the riser's.

Who you callin' a pervert?!?  (Want a piece of candy?)

Looks like I'll be about a week behind you in getting a V restored.  Wish I had an 83, but I'm happy with my 82s.  At least V1 is nearly fully upgraded to 83 specs.   ;D

Figures - you go to all the work of tearing down the front end & the job was already done.  Oh well, sounds like the bearings needed cleaning & re-lube anyway.  Save some of the grease to send to kia!

??? What kinda candy mister ??? ;D ;D :D :D :D :D

I think, looking at the grease in the "old" bearing's, that it has been several year's since the upgrade was done...bare in mind she has stood, like a lot of "V"s, neglected for a lot of year's. The bearings don't show any sign of wear, however, I had already purchased the new one's, (and installed the lower one on a pre-prepped triple tree) so went ahead anyway.

I hope every thing goes well with your "new" aquasition and the "smiling all the way" drive home ;D :D :D

Hmmmm, I've got a new can of synthetic spray grease that would help Kia with his head problem :o ;D :D :D... ;)

Night Vision

didn't I say awhile back it would be nice if she came with the upgraded bearings?

you should've known...

I think if someone had to replace the races on the tapered bearings... it would be quite a job... the stock races had enough lip on them to pound out.... those tapered races don't

::) I know...I shoudda listened... ;D ;D :D :D :D...And you are right about the tapered bearing races compared to the old one's. The old style are easy to knock out...

:) Decided to spend an hour on the '83 to-night... ::) ....and it took most of that hour to get the front cylinder spark plug removed :o :o :o It was in there SOLID!!! I tried penetrating fluid, etc ...NO way would it budge...Finally, I removed the rad, which I had already drained at the week-end and applied some heat from my, (little used), propane torch. It eventually started to give, but was so tight...so I sprayed a liberal amount of pen' fluid over the plug and left it for a wee while. It took a lot of muscle to get the plug halfway, so now I'm thinking...crossed thread...BUGGER!!! However the second half of the thread was easy. That plug had welded its self in and had been that way for a looooong time. The plug was totally useless and would never have been able to fire up the "V".
Now she has fitted:
:) New spark plug's.
:) New plug wire's.
:) New spark plug cap's.
:) New rad overflow tubing.
:) New coolant bottle overflow tubing.
:) I removed the coil's to install the two new plug wire's and therefore cleaned the ground wire under the left side one as well as the frame with 80grit shop roll... 8)
:) Removed, drained and washed out the coolant overflow bottle... 8)
:) Also washed the plastic rad' cover.. 8)
