How does one go about installing the &!!!#%+xx  centerstand spring?

hook one end on the top, put a long sturdy screwdriver in the other end, lock your elbows, push down with your shoulders & hook it on. i did mine in about 15 seconds

It helps if you try this while the bike is on the side stand, with the center stand stuck in its 'up' position.

That is good but the really easy way is to loosen the pivots and pull the bolt on one side. Hook up both ends of the spring and, using the stand as a lever, line up the bolt holes and put the bolt in.
