Safe to run while on the centerstand?

Fall and winter will be approaching and for those days when I can't take her on the road, is it wise to let the bike run while on the centerstand, i.e., a stationary ride, shifting gears and all?  My thought was that this would be better than letting the bike sit for days/weeks on end.

Im just a newbie here but Ive run it on the centerstand before and nothing bad happened.

Just make sure you are on level ground(obviously) and keep your hand on the front brake just in case.

Better to let a properly winterized (see Tigers recent response to Inanecathodes winterization inquirey)bike sit than to run it for short static runs.  Condensation in the oil and exhaust system (primary source of exhaust system rotting)are difficult to boil off without a full hot road run.  Be sure to drain the carbs and hook up your Battery Tender Jr.
