Wait what's wrong w/ the cotter pin?
Rider1>No wonder, the Daytona has very sharp steering and aggressive geometry.  It's a very difficult bike for a new rider.
Rider2>Well it has different geometry now.

The holes on the right side of the axels (both front & rear) are for a screwdriver, to turn the axel when removing it. it helps get it out.  the cotter pin isn't needed because the right side of the axel is larger, & won't pass thru the bearing.

Ahh, I thought that was just a wierd setup on the 83 dual disk setup.
