Brian - for an urban commute, that doesn't look too bad.  As someone who has never been to S.F., what is that large park you ride through?  It looks like it gives you a decent break from typical city streets.

If it's the first one, that is Golden Gate park, I ride along "Martin Luther King Dr."  You can often see some pretty good birds, herons, lots of ducks, and Egrets.  The second "park" so to speak from today is the Presidio, which is a former army base and is being re-utilized for a variety of different uses.  One of those is the Letterman Digital Arts center, which Lucasfilm uses about 60 percent of (maybe more, I'm not sure).  ILM, where I now work, is part of that complex.

Golden gate Park is neat , when my kids were little we would go there on Sunday and watch the RC model sail boats , some were 6 ft long. We got a smaller version and joined the fun .
Another great ride up there is Lucas Valley  to the coast and up north to Bodega Bay, (where the Alfred Hitchcock movie," The birds" was filmed) and   back inland along the Russian River .

"The coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco".

Not really an actual quote by Mark Twain, but it must be summer.  I'm glad I have a heater on the bike...

YellowJacket!

Been riding to work all week.  30 degrees yesterday morining but 67 in the afternoon.  Only fingertips got cold.  Gonna add cold weather glvoves to my want list along woth a cover for YJ.  We have to park about a mile away from work in g crushed gravel lot.  Lots of dust.  Not only that though as both my centerstand and side stand sink right in.  I ended up getting a titanium plate to put under my sidestand and it works well.  Has a lanyard on it with a flag that says "remove before flight".  We have a covered area in the lot for rainy days while we are waiting on the bs so I park under it but its still pretty dusty.
As for the ride, I stay off the interstate as much as I can I40/75.  Its a five mile straight as an arrow stretch from my exit to where I work and the average speed is 80mph.  Most of the traffic at that time is trucks.  Id rather stay a "YellowJacket" than a smudge.
The ride I usually take is a mix of backroads, I-140 and parkside drive.  Its about a 30 minute ride or about 20 mins longer than my regular cage commute, but exhilerating and a great way to start my day.  ;D

Well, it rained (misted heavily?) today.  So I was lane-splitting at the lights while traffic was stopped.  Apparently, the car to my left didn't like me doing that, so they decided to keep up with me, in the same lane, on the wet pavement, around a corner, and pass me.  I think I had about 12 inches of lane left to me as they were keeping up.

Normally I would have just blasted ahead of them, but the wet pavement slowed me down.

San Fran car drivers, geez.

Just what I need, a car driver upset that I legally lane-split, with a side-arm....

Many years ago , My wife worked for the San Bernadino County Sheriffs office , she brought home a fax machine, joke that was just true enough to be real. I can't remember it all  but I can paraphrase it a bit. There were rules as to what weapons you could carry  on what day of the week.  Small arms on Monday,  shotguns and rifles on Tuesday , Large caliber hand guns on wed.  AK47's and other assalt rifles on Thursday, Rpg's and rocket launchers on Friday. On any day  , drivers  driving into the sun were allowed to pull over to shoot.  Sat. was for cleaning and reloading your weapons  and sunday no shooting was allowed. At the time there had been several sniping incidents on the LA freeway system.

I am a firm believer that everyone should go ride in the rain, on purpose, at least twice a season.  the reason is twofold:

1) test your rain gear, see if it performs as you need. does something unexpected happen? shield fogging a problem, etc.  better to find out when you have control over the situation rather than be caught in it.  this gives you time to make alterations or changes in your gear.  if you don't have rain gear, do it anyway, you'll dry out..

2) ride in the rain so you can learn how your bike handles & performs in the rain.  this way the reduced limits come as no surprise.  the last thing you want.

be prepaired, get practice riding in wet (& therefore, cold) conditions.

Lol. I'm a firm believer that those of us who ride in the rain almost daily should get at least two dry days a season.

1) So our gear has a chance to dry out.

2) So we know how our bikes handle and perform on dry roads.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming HOOOOYA lets go again baby !!!!!!
