Sport fairing history?

How rare is this fairing? (see attached photos). There is another style sport (small) fairing that I know was offered with the Vision, but this seems like an alternative to that. I have this fairing which was bolted to a 1982 Vision, but I'd like to know what models it was offered with and if it was offered with the Vision in particular or some other model(s). The one I have is painted red, either from the factory or painted by some shop to match the 1982 Vision paint. Also, an elaborate pin striping was done, which is obviously not factory. All I know is it's a factory fairing made by Yamaha indicated by the company logo boldly placed on the lower edge of the shield and on the dash.

The Prophet of Doom

I have one of these, but in poor condition.  If you want to sell yours, then let me know,
It was available here as an optional extra, but mine is the only one I have seen in real life.  It was part of the standard configuration for the XZ400 "Air Wave" available in Japan only
I have a plastic model XZ400 with one on it (unassembled)

Hartless

yamaha made a lot of deals when designing the Vision, one of which was a limited contract with Craig Vetter, who is the father of the windjammer series of fairings seen on many bikes today .

Mr Vetter, along with a handfull of oem engineer types came up with a few fairing designs . none of which were ever produced in great numbers. the factory full fairing is not a vetter design ,or so says Vetter industries. the "Shark nose "fairing , and the slightly smaller "Rooster" fairing are in fact designed for and used by yamaha on a number of bikes, as was the quicksilver and quicksilver2 (larger mid size units that never quite seem to fit perfectly)

the fairing you have posted is the "rooster" model, which is featured in an ad yamaha had made ,along with the shark ,a seat top map box with a back pad ,and a bolt on seat strap for the bunny rider if the map case was not to be used.
the rooster and the shark models were continued by the Rifle fairing company after the closing of vetter design shops following a fire.

i tried to be accurate, most of this information comes directly from Craig Vetter in e-mail originally intended to buy, beg, borrow, the drawings for the seat top map box with back pad ( original was used in ad, never a second one made, lost in fire.)

the ad mentioned above is on the CD Lucky has available ,in the section on print ads ,big 2 page fold out thing ,, picture is dark, but all items are visible.

Kiawrench, that is some great input. much appreciated.

I wonder just how many of the Rooster and how many of the shark nose were produced. I searched the internet for photos of Yamaha sport fairings and I could only find one image with the Rooster. Found many shots of the Shark nose fairing, which leads me to believe there were more of them produced compared to the Rooster.
